What is the Casal do Vulcão?


Brief History


On September 16, 1957 began the seismic activity of the Capelinhos. Between 16 and 27 were made two hundred earthquakes low intensity. The underwater volcanic activity appeared in the September 27, giving rise to a huge eruption, which lasted until October 1958. After this natural disaster, hundreds of people fled their homes and immigrated to other countries, especially to the United States of America.


The Couple of the Volcano rises from the ruins of an induced Capelinhos.


Designation


The name "couple of the Volcano", arises due to the position of the houses and the building, located on the corner of the place, near the Capelinhos, which comes the name of the place probably Cabeço overlooking the building, Corner Cabeço.


Couple because it provides a set of four buildings and a cistern for tourist use within the Rural Tourism in the form of Bed and Breakfast, built in an area of ??about 1000 m2.

The four constructions are quite independent of each other, one being the home page (70.79 m2) and the remaining three attachments of buildings.

The building had two floors and II served as Atafona (126 m2), which were kept corn and grain consumption of the family.

The house III, also with two floors, was used as Haystack (86.4) which were stored straw and fodder for livestock and farm implements.

In the house IV called Car Bois (31.13 m2) was kept the ox-cart that had wide use at that time.


Works Performed


The works carried out allowed the owner to recover the full space, as regards the reconstruction of existing housing, paying particular attention to the required security conditions.

As such, and given the fragility of existing walls and the fact that some walls are partially ruídas, it was decided to proceed with the demolition of the existing, later to rebuild, keeping the dimensions in existing buildings. All buildings have at least a stone wall, and the three attachments only one of these walls presents no regional stone.

The recovery carried out allowed to recover the main house, incorporating the same two-bedroom double bed, kitchen with wood oven, Living room and bathroom complete.

The Atafona (House II), currently receives three quarters of a twin bed, kitchen, dining room, living room with fireplace and two bathrooms, an area of ??about 126 m2.

In Haystack (House III) were installed two T1, with bedroom, living room and kitchenette in each.

The Car Bois (Home IV), which once served to keep the ox-cart, now receives a bedroom with bathroom.

Outwardly their arrangements were made in the surrounding areas, such as walls and ajardinamentos, in order to provide themselves living space and leisure guests, having fully recovered the tank existing framing is currently an area of ??pleasant reading.
